“Chip seal” in Elizabethtown has been stopped due to concerns about the process and because most of the streets to be treated have been done.
On Monday, June 19th, weather permitting, the contractor will begin a “fog seal” of streets which will turn them black and hold the rocks in place. The end product should be a better riding surface and it will look more like a conventional resurfaced roadway.
The process uses tar and emulsion to tie everything together and it is sprayed on the road by a tanker truck. This application requires a few hours to dry prior to having traffic on it. You should avoid any freshly applied black surface until the application is dry. If you drive thru it the tar will stick to your tires. Please plan ahead so that you allow us time to complete the process. We ask for your patience as we complete this process.

Forest Hills residents – fog seal will start on Robbins Ave., then Johnson, then Clark working toward Singeltary. Singletary and Third Avenue will be your way in and out and will be done last, so that you have a travel lane. If you have an emergency need to travel on Monday, please plan ahead to avoid delay. You do not want to drive over a wet tar surface.
