TOWN OFFICIALS TAKE OATH OF OFFICE AT DECEMBER TOWN COUNCIL MEETING

Senior Resident Superior Court Judge Ashley Core administered the Oath of Office to Mayor Sylvia Campbell and Town Councilmembers Howell Clark, Ricky Leinwand and Rich Glenn at the December 4th Elizabethtown Council meeting. Councilmen Rufus Llyod was re-appointed as Mayor Pro Tem also during the meeting.
Mayor Campbell expressed her appreciation of the current Council, thanking them for the knowledge and expertise that they bring to the town.
The Council also commended Public Works Director Steve Duffy for his staff’s quick response and repair to a water main break on the east end of the town last week.
In other business, the Council:
- Approved the audit report for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2023 as presented by R. Bryon Scott of Thompson, Price, Scott, Adams & Co., P.A. Town Manager Dane Rideout said that the audit report was very positive with the auditors reporting no major findings. Once the audit is approved by the Local Government Commission (LGC), it will be posted on the town’s website.
- Held the second required public hearing for a Rural Transformation Grant to support the acquisition of the Ace Wrecker property at Highway 87 and Airport Road. According to Elizabethtown Planning Director Rusty Worley, the property will be used for workforce housing.
- Awarded contracts under the CDBG-NR House Projects Grant for the rehabilitation of one house and the reconstruction of another.
- Approved a request from Bo Barefoot to host an event on from 6pm – 9pm on Friday, December 15 at the Farmers Market. The event will include Santa Claus, a showing of the Polar Express movie and hot chocolate.
Next meeting of the Elizabethtown Town Council will be Monday, January 8, 2024.
