Notice of Discharge of Untreated Sewage

NOTICE OF DISCHARGE OF UNTREATED SEWAGE

The Town of Elizabethtown had a discharge of untreated wastewater from our force main located near the intersection of McDowell Street and Poplar Street (Hwy 701) of approximately 12,500 gallons. The discharge occurred on Tuesday, January 2, 2023, for approximately 24 hours. The untreated wastewater entered the tributary of Brown’s Creek in the Cape Fear River Basin. While repairs are being made, the Public Works Department is pumping the wastewater into a nearby gravity fed sewer that feeds to the wastewater treatment plant. The Department of Water Resources was notified of the event on January 2. This notice was required by the North Carolina General Statutes Article 21, Chapter 143.215C.
