NOTICE OF DISCHARGE OF UNTREATED SEWAGE

The Town of Elizabethtown had a discharge of untreated wastewater from our lift station located near 107 S. Lower Street of approximately 5,000 gallons. The discharge occurred on Thursday, August 8 for approximately 3-1/4 hours. The untreated wastewater entered the tributary of Brown’s Creek in the Cape Fear River Basin. This incident was caused by increased Stormwater Inflow & Infiltration to the sanitary sewer system during Tropical Storm Debby. The overflow ceased flowing at 3:15am. The Department of Water Resources was notified of the event on August 9. This notice was required by the North Carolina General Statutes Article 21, Chapter 143.215C.
