Notice of Discharge of Untreated Sewage
The Town of Elizabethtown had a discharge of untreated wastewater from a gravity sewer mainline located near Lesane Street of an approximate maximum volume of 101,000 gallons. The discharge started in a window of time between Monday, June 9th and Friday, June 20th, for an estimated 288 hours. The untreated wastewater entered an unnamed tributary of Browns Creek approximately 1,800 feet upstream from the primary waterway. Browns Creek is within the Cape Fear River Basin. Remediation of the issue was initiated immediately upon awareness. The discharge was terminated within 4 hours of discovery. Additional remediation and stabilization efforts are being planned to alleviate future events. The Department of Water Resources was notified of the event on June 20th, as required.
