HISTORY: Elizabethtown, the county seat of Bladen County, was established in 1773 because of its location on the Cape Fear River and proximity to farms and large strands of long leaf pine forests. A Revolutionary Battle between the Loyalists and Patriots took place here and is credited with helping to change the course of the war.
