MADDEN LEAVING ELIZABETHTOWN AFTER SUCCESSFUL CAREER AS TOWN MANAGER

The Town of Elizabethtown will be asked to accept the resignation of their current Town Manager, Eddie Madden, at their February 1 Town Meeting. Mr. Madden, who has been with the Town since 2008, has accepted the position of County Manager for Columbus County, NC.

“We, at the Town of Elizabethtown, are sorry to be losing our friend and town manager, Eddie Madden,” Mayor Sylvia Campbell said in a written statement. “He has done a superb job leading our town during the past 13 years and he will certainly be missed.”

Madden had prepared the Council as well as staff on his impending departure.

“I have thoroughly enjoyed my time in Elizabethtown, and I cherish the relationships that I have established with the board, the staff, and the community,” Madden said. “I am also very proud of the accomplishments we have made together, and I am excited for the future of Elizabethtown. “

Campbell credits Madden on guiding the town through many projects including the renovations of the downtown, the building of Cape Fear Farmers Market and the new airport terminal building, and the improvements to many parks, especially the addition of the new Browns Creek Bike Park and the development of the Greene’s Lake Conservation Park, which is expected to open in late spring. Madden was also instrumental in leading the town through its recovery from two major hurricanes and has assisted the Town of White Lake in obtaining and managing grants for its multi-use path.

Campbell added, “He has led us thru many great accomplishments and is leaving his footprint throughout our town.”

The February 1 Town Meeting is a digital meeting using the ZOOM platform. Information on how to attend the meeting is on the Town’s website at www.elizabethtownnc.org .
